Illustrated with line drawings by Bryan Forsyth. 313 pp., one double-page map; Appendices, Bibliography and Index. Blue cloth with gilt spine title over darker blue pane; device of the Rivers of America series in blind; Near Fine overall. The dj has a couple of areas of light soiling, a vertical fold along the edge of the front flap, and a short, closed tear from the top edge of the front panel. It is now in a protective mylar sleeve.
The enduring value of the volumes of this series is attested by the publication of a two-volume annotated Bibliography by Carol and Jean Fitzgerald in 2001 (Oak Knoll). From the geology of the area and earliest records of the first inhabitants of the area through the time when “ the Russians and Americans, using the Yukon to transport gold and furs through the poverty-stricken native villages, eventually left, leaving little behind except a smattering of twentieth-century ways and ideas”; it is all part of this history of a River.
