Pierrepont (1817-1892) was a lawyer, advisor to Lincoln, and held posts both as U.S. Attorney General and Ambassador to England, however briefly. (cf. Concise Dictionary of American Biography, 4th Ed., albeit with typographical errors.) This volume recounts his journey with his father across the U.S., through British Columbia, culminating with a sojourn in Alaska.
