Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 2007. Octavo. Cloth. Fine / Near Fine. [lxiv], 203 pp.; the latest addition to the Lorenzo da Ponte Italian Library series of the University of Toronto. Includes the Editor's Introduction, a Bio-bibliographical note; a Note on the Text and Translation; an extensive Bibliography and General Index.
A fine edition, of value to those interested in early nautical history, cartography, and historical research. The bibliography and notes by themselves are a treasure. A welcome addition to the scarce Hakluyt Society printing. Beyond an adventure-filled narrative, as the journal is described in the dj: “It is also a remarkably accurate ethnographic and geographical account of the voyage.” And yes, Virginia, as well as Santa there are giants in the world, as Pigafetta describes one "so tall that we came only to his waist."
