Quebec: J. N. Duquet, 1882. 16mo (16 cm). Original Wraps. Very Good. 72 pp. in sewn wraps.
Known in English as the Great Comet of 1882, it became visible in the southern sky in September o 1882, and became exceptionally bright, being visible at its closest range during the daylight hours. Apart from prediction as to its arrival, and a discussion of comets and asteroids, chapters of especial note in this small work compare this comet to that of 1843, and to Halley's Comet, and one on Cosmology. The front cover bears the signature in fine hand of "H. Beaugrand”; quare if this is Honore Beaugrand (1849-1906), publisher of the paper "La Patrie'. [cf. References Biographiques, p. 42, and 'The Macmillan Dictionary of Canadian Biography, 4th Ed., p.47] The booklet is cited in Gagnon, 'Essai de Bibliographie Canadienne', #1542, but gives a shorter title and references only 69 pp.
Condition: A very nice copy indeed, with the major detraction being a small, square chip out of the corner of the rear wrap and final leafs, not affecting any text. Light perpendicular fold down the centre.
