Silk Screened at the Vancouver School of Art, with acknowledgment to Reg Holmes for his 'help and cooperation'. Whittome studied at the VSA, and noted in particular the influence of Jack Shadbolt. Following her academic studies, she lived in France for 5 years, pursuing further her exploration of drawing and printmaking, returning thereafter (1968), to Montreal. She was the winner of a Governor General's Laureate Award in 2002. "This is a book of drawings taken from a series of studies started first by looking at photographs of insects, then drawing direct from the human form. It was my intention to capture a combination of both experiences and through a change of character and appearance, to create a human-insect image. / Irene Whittome/ 4th Year (typescript on first leaf; not a signature,) Vancouver School of Art."
